Happy Easter to all families
of Grade One students! I trust that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable
Spring Break. At the conclusion of Lent,
if we keep our fingers crossed, maybe Spring will grace us with sunny days
ahead...
In Language Arts, we continue
working on complete sentences using appropriate ending punctuation whether it
be periods or question marks as we practice writing statements and questions. We
continue to strengthen our phonic skills daily during “Morning Message” carpet
time. Additionally we have been working on common nouns, proper nouns and
contractions. Weekly spelling units continue to take place.
In Math we have advanced to
double digit addition as well as working on coin recognition and the values of
coins.
Science class has focused on
the Life Cycle of a frog which has been fascinating and intriguing.
Weekly meetings with our Grade
7 Reading Buddies have been integral in assisting us with improving our reading
skills as well as aiding us with some of our difficult tasks like cutting tiny
things for art projects that were challenging for our small hands to
manipulate. Our Art projects continue to be bright, bold and dazzling including
such projects as Leprechaun Traps that began with a blueprint drawing as stage
one before the construction of the traps. A leprechaun actually visited us and
lost his shoe in one of the traps! The class has really enjoyed exploring the
medium of paint in their art projects which are displayed with pride on our
bulletin boards!
Last month during Lent, we
were reminded as Catholics that our duties involved prayer, fasting and
almsgiving. During our Religion classes we read about these duties and
discussed their importance so that we could come to a fuller understanding of
them. On Pizza Fridays, we abstained from ordering pizza with pepperoni and had
cheese on our pizza instead. We realize that the sacrifices we make are really
very small compared to those that Jesus made for us!
